3. In the page that appears, enter Last Name for the Column name, and while you’re at it, change the maximum length from 255 to something reasonable, perhaps 50, as shown in Figure 8-7 .

4. Click OK.

Adding Columns Using Existing Site Columns

You can add all the columns you want to a list using the process described in the last section. However, you can shorten that process and likely create a better list if you use the built-in column types available to your site. To do so, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Trip Leaders list, click List Tools ⇒ List, and then click Create Column.

2. Scroll down in the page that appears to the bottom of the Columns section. The last two columns in the Trip Leaders list are Created By and Modified By. Two lines after that, click the phrase “Add from existing site columns,” as shown in Figure 8-8 . In response, SharePoint displays the page shown in Figure 8-9 .
